Today, in their worlds

A sudden downpour made me laugh. I only understood it was nothing to laugh about once a red line began spreading across my shoulder.

• The Cowardly LionI was the one who cried in your place that day. I'm not charging you for it.
Nick ChopperI know the price. I was sitting at your feet, counting every bit of it.
• The Old HeadYou've got a body that rusts when you laugh, and still you found something worth laughing about.
Nick ChopperPlease keep the cupboard door shut. I don't wish to answer today.

I brought two cups of coffee down at the watch change. One cup was an excuse. So was the other.

• HayriyeThose two cups came out of my kitchen. When do I get paid back for the excuse?
KeremI'll add a line to your share when we divide up the haul.
• Baba OsmanCarry something hot around at night and your hands go stiff. Stiff hands can't hold a wheel.
