The village calls me a man of nerve, but it's just a house I've made calls to for thirty years. The garlic syrup in my bag has nothing to do with that.

The Count's StudySecretary by Day, Count by Night

On a house call I saw both study candlesticks burned down to their stubs, side by side. This house holds both those who may stay up all night and those who may not, and candlelight makes no distinction between them.
